The final phase of the highway was completed under a $30 million contract awarded to Bursey Excavating and Development Inc. in September 2024.
The project involved the completion of the north-south arterial highway route in St. John’s and Mount Pearl.
The end of the Team Gushue Highway is connected to the Pitts Memorial Drive and Robert E. Howlett Memorial Drive interchange using a roundabout corridor. It involved extended the paved highway from Topsail Road — where the Team Gushue Highway had ended — to the Commonwealth Avenue, Brookfield Road and Heavy Tree Road area.
The project included installing drainage culverts, an overpass structure and auxiliary access roads, as well as re-aligning a section of Brookfield Road, with the aim of alleviating traffic congestion, improving safety and enhancing access to and from the cities of St. John’s and Mount Pearl and the surrounding urban and rural communities.
