Thursday Night Football will see Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears host Drake Maye and his New England Patriots in what will be one of the matchups of Week Seven.
Following a rocky start to the season, Maye finally looks to have found his rhythm again for the Patriots. Having thrown one touchdown in the opening three games, the 24-year-old has turned things around with 10 touchdowns in his last three games.
Chicago received a massive boost at the weekend after they welcomed Williams back to their starting line-up. The quarterback looked like he had never been away after throwing for over 300 yards against the Atlanta Falcons.
This is set to be a real battle between two brilliant quarterbacks but Rob Gronkowski already knows which one he would have preferred to play with.
Rob Gronkowski chooses between Drake Maye and Caleb Williams
The start to the year for Maye was a huge shock after what was such an impressive 2025 season. Fortunately for the Patriots, Maye has been able to turn things around as Gronkowski shared just why he would love to play with the 24-year-old QB.
“They’re both in the right situations. They really are, and Ben Johnson, I feel like, hit a home run where he landed with the head coaching situation with Caleb there. It’s so hard because, with the systems, you got to have that quarterback for the system that you’re presenting to the table as an offensive coordinator and as an organisation,” Gronkowski said on the Up & Adams Show.
“I feel like they both landed in the right places. There’s no doubt about that, but if I had to choose a quarterback, this is tough. This is tough, it really is, but I’m going to go with Drake Maye. I really am, Kay. I just like the touch on his ball.
“I feel like, in the end, Drake Maye would be, for me as well as a player, the ideal quarterback. I mean, I’m not saying I wouldn’t have chemistry with Caleb, but I feel like Drake Maye and I would be able to be on the same page with the chemistry going into games. Just the way that he can process defences, I feel like he’s going to get better and better and better.”
Thursday’s game at Soldier Field has the potential to be one for the ages with both teams heading into it in fine form. Gronkowski’s comments could now even give Williams some extra motivation going into the game.
Of course, Gronk has loyalties to the Patriots following his time in New England but he has shown his belief in Maye despite his early season struggles. Williams is only going into his fourth game of the season on Thursday as he looks to throw for more than two touchdowns for the first time this year.
