KUALA LUMPUR: Two journalists involved in a road accident in Perak this morning will receive assistance under the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA initiative, Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said.
He said the Communications Ministry, through the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), was arranging assistance for Bernama journalist Nur Afiradina Arshad and New Straits Times (NST) journalist Zahratulhayat Md Arif.
"I was just informed by Bernama editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj that both journalists involved in the accident in Menglembu, along Jalan Ipoh-Lumut, this morning had received treatment at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh and did not sustain any serious injuries.
"I pray that everything goes smoothly for both of them and that they make a full recovery," he said in a Facebook post.
Nur Afiradina, 34, and Zahratulhayat, 37, were travelling to Bagan Datuk to cover an event involving Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi when a lorry hit the rear of their Perodua Bezza at traffic lights at about 6am.
Tabung Kasih@HAWANA is a welfare initiative established in conjunction with National Journalists' Day (Hawana) to assist journalists, former media practitioners and veteran journalists facing health problems, personal hardships or financial difficulties.
The initiative is managed by Bernama on behalf of the Communications Ministry to strengthen the social safety net for media practitioners nationwide. -- BERNAMA
