Ubuntu Touch 24.04-2.1 was released on Friday as the latest update to this community-maintained tablet/smartphone Ubuntu Linux platform. Ubuntu Touch 24.04-1.5 was also released as a maintenance update for the prior series.
Both of these Ubuntu Touch releases shipped with a security fix for vulnerabilities that allowed unconfined applications to gain administrator privileges without passwords. The issue arose as any unconfined application can communicate with system-level lomiri-download-manager and lomiri-upload-manager via D-Bus to execute arbitrary commands or read any file on the device as root.
Ubuntu Touch 24.04-2.1 is exciting for expanding the supported device list. Newly supported hardware by Ubuntu Touch includes the Nothing Phone (1), OnePlus Nord N10, OnePlus Nord N100, Volla Tablet, Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro (Global), Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S/9 Pro (India), Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro Max, and Xiaomi Poco M2 Pro.
Ubuntu Touch also updated its Morph Browser engine against a newer QtWebEngine build, and brought various other fixes and minor improvements.
