Long queues of vehicles continued to be witnessed at vehicle fitness centers across Lahore, even on a holiday, as motorists rushed to obtain green fitness stickers despite a one-month extension in the deadline.
The rush at the Punjab Waste Management and Environmental X (PWX) centers showed no signs of easing with vehicle owners turning up for emission testing and fitness certificates. The testing process was underway at 12 centers established across the city,including the PWX center in Township.
According to officials, emission testing has been made mandatory for private vehicles to control smog.
Vehicle owners were required to obtain fitness stickers and certificates from the designated centers.
The authorities have warned that action will be taken against vehicles failing to meet fitness standards from November 15.Violators may also face a fine of Rs.2,000.
The fitness stickers, equipped with QR codes will remain valid for one year.
Under the prescribed rules, motor cars with engine capacities of up to 1,000cc will be exempt from the requirement for five years from their date of manufacture.
Cars with engine capacities ranging from 1,001cc to 2,000cc will be exempt for six years while those exceeding 2,000cc will be exempt for seven years.
