The Chief Judicial Magistrate Court at Manjeri has directed the police at Melattur to register a first information report (FIR) and investigate a complaint against Najeeb Kanthapuram, Perinthalmanna MLA, for allegedly threatening an advocate commissioner and obstructing official duties.
The order came on a complaint filed by advocate commissioner K.P. Krishnakumar. According to the complaint, the MLA behaved improperly and sent away the advocate commissioner and his team when they arrived at a house in Vengoor near Perinthalmanna to carry out attachment proceedings under a court order.
The court had earlier sought an explanation from the police. The police told the court that the MLA had reacted emotionally after the family warned that they would die by suicide if the house was attached.
However, the police report did not mention whether an FIR had been registered or a formal investigation conducted against the MLA. The court subsequently directed the police to register a case and investigate the complaint in accordance with the law.
The incident had also led to contempt proceedings against the MLA. He appeared through his counsel before the court on October 9 and submitted an unconditional apology.
The contempt notice was issued over allegations that the MLA obstructed the advocate commissioner from taking possession of the house under a court order.
The court is scheduled to deliver its decision on the apology petition on October 16.
