Philadelphia 76ers swingman Jaylen Brown reacted to former teammate Jayson Tatum’s recent comments that the pair aren’t feuding after the summer trade.
Brown won two MVP trophies with the Celtics over Tatum in their 2024 NBA Championship run, with the following seasons ending in failure due to injuries and other issues between the star wing duo, culminating in Brown being traded to the Philadelphia 76ers this summer.
Ever since the trade, tensions have been reported between Brown and Tatum, with the duo snubbing each other in front of cameras until a social media interaction prompted Tatum and Brown to comment on this situation publicly.
Jaylen Brown responds to Jayson Tatum saying there’s no beef between the former teammates
Brown responded to Tatum’s recent comments after a 127-116 win over the Milwaukee Bucks on October 24, reiterating that there is no beef between them while making it clear that there might be some basketball-related animosity.
“He’s right; there is no beef. Jayson comes from a wonderful family; we accomplished some great things. He’s a hell of a basketball player. He got a great PR team. There’s no beef, but there might be a little lamb chops with some gravy. He should stay ready at all times.”
“There’s no beef; it’s just basketball… There might be a lamb chop, but we will be alright.”
Brown repeated the operating line about Tatum having a great PR team, being a good family man, and being a great basketball player at least three times in this interview.
While Brown’s words do indicate he will use the fallout of the Celtics trade as on-court motivation, both players likely won’t address this situation again after both emphatically saying they don’t have beef.
What did Jayson Tatum say about Jaylen Brown?
The Brown-Tatum relationship came into focus after Tatum recently shared his version of finding out about Brown’s trade to the 76ers.
Brown commented a cap emoji under a video sharing Tatum’s initial reaction, leading to the Celtics star speaking to the media to reiterate that the pair have no beef or behind-the-scenes rivalry going on.
“All of y’all kind of saw us grow up and everything that we accomplished. And I don’t want that to be in the rearview mirror of you know, what’s being talked about when it pertains to us two. It should be celebrated, right? Like, how many people play in this league and never went to the Finals? We went twice and won a championship. So it should be more about that.”
“This ain’t no f—– Shaq and Kobe. It’s not about that. It should be more praise and I understand that don’t necessarily sell. Drama gets clicks and views, but that’s not my thing.”
