Malawi Energy Regula tory Authority (Mera) female staff members have donated items to Mitundu Community Hospital as part of Mothers’ Day celebrations.
The items included soap, soya pieces, brooms and mops.
Mera Public Relations and Consumers Affairs Manager Fitina Khonje said new mothers and guardians at the facility required essential supplies.
Khonje said the donation was part of the women’s effort to assist mothers and guardians.
Mitundu Community Hospital representative James Botha said the facility faced challenges, including those pertaining to food insecurity and inadequate space, which affected the provision of services to patients.
Botha said the hospital handled an average of 30 deliveries daily, putting pressure on the available resources and facilities.
“These mothers go through a lot because most of them lack resources,” Botha said.
One of the mothers at the facility, Fyness Lekezan, said the items would help them meet some of the needs of mothers.
