The statement noted that representatives from journalist and media associations within the Permanent Working Group on the Safety of Journalists, along with 24 local journalists and Working Group associates, will serve as dedicated contact points to support media workers covering the election.
The initiative aims to provide essential support, assistance, and guidance to media workers whose safety may be threatened or whose work may be obstructed on election day.
The following emergency hotlines will be available to journalists reporting from the field: the Association of Independent Electronic Media (ANEM) Safe Line at 0800 100 115, the emergency hotlines of the Independent Journalists’ Association of Serbia (NUNS) at 060 688 22 31 and 066 8822 008. On October 25, Journalists’ Association of Serbia (UNS) journalists can reach their Permanent Working Group representative or legal counsel at 062 530 337 and 064 941 04 89.
Journalists and media workers are strongly encouraged to report any threats, pressure, assaults, or other forms of interference with their work or safety.
All reported information will be forwarded immediately to the on-duty members of the Permanent Working Group on the Safety of Journalists, who will remain in direct contact with designated liaisons inside the police and public prosecutor’s offices.
The Permanent Working Group urges journalists to look out for one another and show solidarity. It advises them to follow the safety protocols issued by national and international media organizations, prioritize their personal safety and that of their colleagues, and prominently display their press credentials at all times while reporting.
