Manchester City continued their perfect start to the 2026/27 Premier League campaign following a 3-0 win over 10-man Liverpool at the Anfield Stadium on Sunday evening.
The visiting team and its supporters faced a hostile reception in Manchester City’s first match since an independent panel found the club guilty of breaching Premier League financial regulations involving £900 million.
However, it was a quiet affair on the pitch in the first half as neither of the two sides were able to break the deadlock despite coming close on several occasions.
Liverpool’s momentum was disrupted in the 62nd minute after Ryan Gravenberch was sent off for a second yellow card and City capitalised on the numerical advantage as Erling Haaland put the visitors ahead three minutes later.
Jeremy Doku soon doubled the lead for City in the 68th minute after curling a right-footed shot from the edge of the box to make the situation worse for the Reds who were still trying to bring themselves back into the match.
Ten minutes later Rayan Cherki slotted home a well-controlled ball in front of goalkeeper Alisson Becker to make it 3-0 and eventually secured the victory for Man City.
The victory sent Man City three points clear at the top of the table, with second-placed Arsenal on 15 points.
Speaking after the match, Haaland said, “Every single person is part of Man City and every single fan, this is a lovely moment which will stay with us for a long time when it comes to the feeling after the game, and in the game. I am so proud of everyone.”
Meanwhile, in the other matches on Sunday, Crystal Palace beat Nottingham Forest 3-1, while Hull City held Everton to a 1-1 draw.
