Milwaukee Overcomes Four Run Deficit in Game 2
The Milwaukee Brewers continued their remarkable postseason run Saturday night, overcoming an early four-run deficit to defeat the Tampa Bay Rays 5-4 in Game 2 of the World Series. With the dramatic victory at American Family Field, Milwaukee took a commanding 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series and moved two wins away from its first championship in franchise history.
The Brewers once again demonstrated their ability to respond under pressure, rallying after Tampa Bay jumped ahead in the opening inning. Sal Frelick delivered the game tying home run, while rookie shortstop Cooper Pratt came through with the decisive hit in the seventh inning.
Rays Strike First With Four Run Inning
Tampa Bay wasted little time putting pressure on Milwaukee rookie starter Logan Henderson. Chandler Simpson and Junior Caminero delivered RBI singles before Liam Hicks crushed a two run home run, giving the Rays a 4-0 lead in the top of the first.
However, Milwaukee answered immediately. William Contreras drove in the Brewers’ first run with a single, and Garrett Mitchell followed with another RBI hit to cut the deficit to 4-2 before the inning ended.
The Brewers continued chipping away in the fourth inning when David Hamilton grounded into a run-scoring play, bringing Milwaukee within one at 4-3. Tampa Bay’s defensive miscues also began to create opportunities for the home team.
Frelick and Pratt Deliver the Comeback
Milwaukee finally pulled even in the sixth inning when Frelick launched a solo home run to tie the game at 4-4. It was his first homer in three months, arriving at a crucial moment with the Brewers searching for a breakthrough.
The decisive moment came in the seventh. Brice Turang opened the inning with a double and advanced to third on Garrett Mitchell’s flyout. Pratt then lined a single into shallow right field, bringing Turang home to give Milwaukee its first lead of the night at 5-4.
The Brewers’ bullpen protected that advantage. Abner Uribe earned the victory after delivering a scoreless appearance, while Aaron Ashby secured the save by striking out Yandy Díaz with the tying run on base to end the game.
Brewers Move Two Wins From History
Milwaukee has now won seven consecutive games and has repeatedly found ways to overcome adversity throughout October. The Brewers have also taken advantage of home-field support, energizing the crowd with another comeback victory.
The series now shifts to Tampa Bay for Game 3 on Monday night. The Rays must respond quickly to avoid falling into a deeper hole, while Milwaukee will look to maintain its momentum and move one step closer to a historic World Series championship.
