Selena Gomez sold her Encino, California, mansion for $5.399 million, six years after purchasing the property for $4.895 million. The nearly 11,500-square-foot estate was once owned by rock musician Tom Petty and later became the filming location for the first three seasons of Gomez’s cooking series, ‘Selena + Chef.’As reported by Realtor, the singer sold the six-bedroom property on September 8, 2026, after listing it in May for nearly $6.5 million. The final sale price was about $1.1 million below the original asking price. The sale comes after Gomez and her husband, music producer Benny Blanco, purchased a $35 million estate in Beverly Hills in December 2024, shortly before announcing their engagement. The couple married in September 2025.
Selena Gomez bought the mansion for $4.89 million in 2020
Gomez purchased the Encino home in March 2020 for $4.895 million, according to the Los Angeles Times. The property sits on nearly an acre of land and was custom-built for Petty and his first wife, Jane Benyo, in 1989. The home had a turbulent history before Gomez acquired it. A fire in 1987 destroyed most of the original structure, leaving the basement recording studio largely intact. Petty rebuilt the three-storey house, which was completed two years later.
Petty and Benyo later separated, and the property passed through several owners. It was sold again in 2017 and underwent extensive renovation before Gomez bought it in 2020. The house’s original music connection remained one of its distinctive features. The lower level included a recording studio and vocal booth, along with a wine cellar, gym, massage room and other entertainment spaces.

The estate measures approximately 11,500 square feet and has six bedrooms.
As reported by Realtor, it had multiple bedroom suites, a gourmet kitchen, a formal dining room, a family room and a spacious living area with high ceilings. The kitchen features marble countertops, an island and a brick stove. Other amenities include a media room, office, gym, wine cellar and massage room.Outside, the grounds include a swimming pool and spa, a cabana, a fire pit and areas for outdoor dining. A waterfall and stream also form part of the landscaped backyard.
The house was more than a residence for Selena. According to Architectural Digest, the kitchen served as the filming location for the first three seasons of her HBO Max cooking series, ‘Selena + Chef,’ in which she prepared meals with guidance from professional chefs.
Why she sold it below the original asking price
Gomez listed the Encino property for approximately $6.495 million in May 2026. The home attracted a buyer after an earlier pending deal fell through in July, according to ELLE Decor.
It ultimately sold on September 8 for $5.399 million. The sale price was around $504,000 more than the $4.895 million Gomez paid in 2020, before accounting for transaction costs, taxes, maintenance, renovation expenses or other ownership costs.
The final price was also about $1.1 million below the original asking price, a reduction of roughly 17%.
The $35 million Beverly Hills home she shares with Benny Blanco
Gomez and Blanco purchased their Beverly Hills residence in December 2024 for $35 million, according to Realtor. The property includes a main house and two guesthouses, one of which has a studio and another a home theatre. The estate also has a fitness centre, swimming pool, greenhouse and landscaped outdoor spaces. Its size and facilities make it substantially larger than the Encino property Gomez has now sold. The Beverly Hills purchase took place shortly before the couple announced their engagement in December 2024. They married in September 2025.
