Prime Minister Nawaf Salam vowed Monday to punish those involved in secretly transporting half a ton of explosives into Lebanon.
Two suspected Hezbollah members were caught Thursday afternoon at a security checkpoint in Dahr al-Baidar in Lebanon's east, near a road linking the country with Syria. They were transporting 250 kilograms of TNT-type explosives and 250 kilograms of C4-type in their vehicle.
"Our government will not be lenient with anyone who dares to tamper with the country's security, safety, and stability," Salam said during a cabinet session, adding that his government will act firmly against the possession, transport, or use of any illegal weapons.
