A former Carolina Panthers quarterback may have added insult to injury (and more insult) at the expense of the Philadelphia Eagles here in Week 6.
Over a week ago, the Eagles released Andy Dalton—who had served as their backup to starter Jalen Hurts. The 16th-year veteran spent his prior three campaigns with Carolina before being traded to Philadelphia this past offseason.
Well, Dalton's services might've been of use on Sunday, where the Panthers topped the Eagles for a 25-14 win. With Hurts sidelined due to a superficial blood clot, Philly turned to 26-year-old Tanner McKee.
But perhaps that wouldn't have been the plan if things broke differently.
According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the Eagles wanted to bring Dalton back after his release. But Dalton, per the report, "politely declined."
The rejected Birds would amass 222 yards of total offense in the loss to Carolina. McKee completed 26 of his 45 throws for 215 yards and a touchdown.
Florio added that Dalton will be signing with another team "as soon as tomorrow."
