The Ministry of Education has announced that 56,003 teachers of the Ghana Education Service (GES) have received payment of their promotion-related salary adjustments and arrears, fulfilling part of an agreement reached with teacher unions.
In a press statement issued on Friday, October 16, the Ministry said the payments followed engagements with the teacher unions and the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD).
“The payment of promotion-related salary adjustments and arrears has been made to 56,003 teachers of the Ghana Education Service (GES),” the statement said.
The Ministry added that validation is ongoing for the remaining 23,367 teachers whose promotion-related payments are yet to be processed.
According to the statement, the GES is expected to complete the validation exercise to enable the CAGD to pay the outstanding arrears by the end of October 2026, in line with the agreement reached between the parties.
“When finished, the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department will honour the payment by the end of October as agreed by the parties,” the Ministry stated.
The completion of the payments is expected to settle the outstanding promotion arrears owed to affected teachers.
The Ministry also expressed appreciation to the leadership of the teacher unions, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, the Ministry of Finance and the CAGD for their cooperation and commitment to resolving the matter.
It further assured teachers and the general public that it would continue engaging the relevant institutions to ensure the timely processing and payment of all outstanding entitlements.
The statement was issued by Hashmin Mohammed, Press Secretary to the Ministry of Education.
