Brady Tkachuk went through a whole range of emotions in the first period of his return to Ottawa to face his former Senators teammates on Wednesday night with the Florida Panthers.
Tkachuk, who spent eight seasons with the Senators, was booed during warmups and throughout the opening period.
Although there were some audible cheers during his video tribute — ‘Thank You, Brady Tkachuk!’ the public address announcer said at the end — there were mostly jeers.
Ottawa fans came prepared with a variety of chants aimed at their former captain who forced a summertime divorce and moved to the tropics.
One was as simple as it was profane: ‘F-You Brady!’
Not long after Tkachuk’s tribute video aired but he got some payback by scoring on Florida’s first shot of the night on a power-play chance at the 10-minute mark.
Brady scored, poetically enough, off a pass from brother Matthew.

Later in the period, Brady got involved in a scrum behind the goal in which he and now-former teammate Shane Pinto traded words — and fists.
Brady Tkachuk spent 2 minutes in the penalty box for that one.
The Panthers and Senators went into the first break tied at 1.
