Edo State Commissioner for Information, Kazeem Afegbua, has defended President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, urging Nigerians to give the President another four years to consolidate his reforms.
Afegbua made the remarks during an interview on ARISE News, where he reflected on the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan and argued that lower food prices during his tenure did not necessarily mean Nigerians were satisfied with his government.
“If things were so good during Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, why was he defeated? Food may have been cheaper then, but people were still unhappy,” Afegbua said.
The Edo commissioner also defended Tinubu’s economic decisions, describing them as difficult measures that he believes could help improve the country’s economic situation.
“President Tinubu has taken painful decisions to improve things. Give him another four years to consolidate what he is doing,” he said.
Afegbua said the Edo State Government had introduced measures to support farmers and market women and recently launched buses. He compared these initiatives with programmes being implemented by the Tinubu administration across the states.
He also criticised opposition parties, arguing that they had not presented convincing policy alternatives to address Nigeria’s challenges.
“The opposition will continue to lament, but they have not presented any good policies,” he said.
Afegbua further referred to economic decisions taken during the period when former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar served in government, arguing that privatisation and the loss of some assets contributed to the country’s economic difficulties.
“We are quick to forget the trajectory of this country. There was a reason Goodluck Jonathan was voted out; people were unhappy,” he said.
