The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Enugu State has confirmed the death of one of its members, Nworie Christopher, following a shooting incident at the party’s campaign office in the state capital.
Christopher, who hailed from Affa in Udi Local Government Area, reportedly sustained gunshot injuries during an attack on the campaign office of the party’s governorship candidate, Christian Chinyeaka Ohaa, in the Government Reserved Area of Enugu on October 10, 2026.
The party alleged that armed thugs stormed the facility during a gathering and attacked its members, leaving several people injured.

According to the NDC, efforts by its leadership to save Christopher’s life proved unsuccessful.
The party condemned the killing and demanded that security agencies identify, arrest and prosecute those responsible.
Following the incident, Ohaa led a delegation of party officials to Christopher’s family on Tuesday, October 13, to express condolences over the loss.
The delegation included his running mate, Chief Frank Omeje; the state chairman, Engr. Ibuchukwu Obeta; the state secretary, Hon. Emmanuel Chukwujekwu Nebo; Prof. Uche Akubue; Hon. Emeke Okeke; and the state women leader.
In a statement issued through his media aide, Hon. Sampson Ukwu, Ohaa condemned the killing and expressed concern over what he described as an escalation of political violence against opposition members in Enugu State.
He said Christopher had attended the gathering to support the party’s vision for the state but lost his life in the process.
“No election is worth a single drop of a citizen’s blood. Nworie Christopher went out to support a vision for a better Enugu. Today he is gone. His twin brother is left with an empty half of his world. His family is shattered,” Ohaa said.
The governorship candidate also expressed sympathy for Christopher’s mother and other relatives, insisting that the killing would not deter the party from participating in the political process.
“We will not be silenced by violence. We will not be intimidated. The blood of Nworie Christopher and all our injured members cries out for justice,” he added.
NDC Raises Alarm Over Earlier Attacks
The party maintained that the incident was not an isolated occurrence, citing previous attacks it said had targeted its members and supporters.
It recalled an alleged armed attack on a ward meeting at Obuoffia in Nkanu West Local Government Area on September 12, 2026, during which eight members reportedly sustained gunshot injuries.
The NDC also referenced an earlier incident at the airport, alleging that its supporters were tear-gassed, shot at and brutalised.
According to the party, the reported incidents raise concerns about the safety of opposition members and their ability to participate in political activities without fear of violence.
“This is no longer ordinary politics. It is a dangerous escalation that threatens the right of citizens to participate peacefully in the democratic process,” the party said.

It further called on the Enugu State Government to address concerns over the repeated attacks and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
NDC Calls For Independent Investigation
The NDC urged the Inspector-General of Police and other relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough, independent and transparent investigation into Christopher’s death and the earlier attack in Obuoffia.
It called for everyone suspected of planning, sponsoring or carrying out the incidents to be identified, arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The party also stressed that political disagreements should not result in violence or threaten the lives of citizens exercising their right to support candidates and participate in democratic activities.
