Coinbase has partnered with global payments infrastructure provider Thunes to expand stablecoin payments and enable international payouts directly to local bank accounts and mobile wallets.
Announced Monday at the Money20/20 USA conference in Las Vegas, the collaboration will combine Coinbase’s stablecoin infrastructure with Thunes’ global payment network, which supports transactions across more than 140 countries and 90 currencies.
Under the agreement, Coinbase will integrate Thunes’ Direct Global Network into its platform, giving customers access to local clearing systems and alternative payment methods, including in regions with limited banking infrastructure.
In return, Coinbase will provide stablecoin infrastructure to Thunes, allowing the Singapore based payments company to integrate digital assets more deeply into its existing network.
The partnership will support international remittances, corporate supplier payments, and payouts to gig economy workers, connecting stablecoin transfers with traditional financial systems.
Coinbase expands global payment reach through Thunes network
Thunes’ infrastructure connects more than 12 billion mobile wallets, stablecoin wallets, and bank accounts, alongside 15 billion cards through over 220 payment methods.
The company also holds more than 50 payment licenses worldwide, providing the regulatory infrastructure needed to facilitate international transactions across multiple jurisdictions.
“Last-mile connectivity is a key part of this, and working alongside Thunes allows us to deliver an end-to-end payment experience that offers faster, friction-free payouts across more countries and currencies than ever before,” said Alec Lovett, Coinbase’s Head of Infrastructure Products.
The partnership comes as Coinbase expands beyond crypto trading into payments infrastructure, seeking to make stablecoins more practical for businesses and consumers moving money internationally.
Thunes has also been expanding its digital asset partnerships, joining Circle’s Payments Network earlier this year to support stablecoin settlement while maintaining traditional fiat payment workflows.
The companies did not disclose financial terms or a timeline for the full integration.
