Former international wants Celtic pair to move to the English Premier League.
Celtic centre-back duo Cameron Carter-Vickers and Auston Trusty have been encouraged to challenge themselves at a higher level and find a move to a “bigger” club.
Signed from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2021, Carter-Vickers has been a monumental success at Celtic Park, winning 10 major trophies in Glasgow. He was also linked with a £20million move to Bayer Leverkusen last summer before suffering a season-ending Achilles injury.

The jury remains out on Trusty following some patchy form since his arrival from Sheffield United. However, the 28-year-old has continued to play a big role for a Celtic side that has dominated domestically, winning four major honours since signing for £6million on deadline day in September 2024. The Philadelphia native has also developed into a regular starter for the United States national team since his move to Parkhead.
However, according to former United States international defender Brek Shea, the duo need to leave Celtic to take their game to the next level, with the former 34-cap international unsure if their game can improve further in the Scottish top flight.
"I'm a fan of Auston Trusty and Cameron Carter-Vickers and I want all our players playing at big clubs and having success,” said Shea. “I mean those guys they’ve featured almost every game, right? And I want them to be playing and if they're playing every day, that helps us at the end of the day. Obviously no disrespect to the Scottish league, but there's only a few teams that they have to really worry about every year. So there's some pros and cons to that for every learning ability for players.”

Shea, 36, began his career with FC Dallas before moving to Stoke City for a fee of £3.5million in 2013. He later spent time on loan to Barnsley and Birmingham City before returning to the MLS to play for Orlando City, Vancouver Whitecaps, Atlanta United, retiring with Inter Miami in 2022. Having experienced the strength of the English Premier League during his own career, the former midfielder has implored the pair to consider returning to the English top flight, believing it would be highly beneficial for their international ambitions.
“I know they could still make another move, hopefully to England,” Shea told Jackpot City Casino. “I mean Cameron Carter-Vickers came through Tottenham, and he is definitely comfortable over there. And then Trusty, he's a very athletic player and has done well with the national team. So I don't see why not. I mean, you can feel the confidence, you can work on things, but also for them, I know as athletes you want to be tested. So hopefully they can get a move to a bigger club at some point. Not that Celtic isn't."
