We are now talking about assumptions. Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan on Wednesday told this to Armenian News-NEWS.am, reflecting on the report on the possible consequences of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) Treaty’s termination for Armenia.
According to him, the report is exaggerated by 50%, and the remaining figures were already presented by the Armenian side earlier.
He informed that the Ministry of Economy, the Central Bank, and the Ministry of Finance of Armenia have formed a working group and conducted a study assessing the impact of Armenia's possible exit from the EAEU.
Papoyan said that the negative impact on Armenia's economy in case of exit from the EAEU will not be considerable and is estimated at -0.61%.
He assured that Armenia has always conscientiously fulfilled its obligations to the EAEU.
"There are no obligations that we have not fulfilled. We view this matter as an economic dispute, which also concerns economic restrictions. In this regard, we have appealed to the Eurasian Economic Commission [i.e. the executive body of the EAEU], the session of which will be held on November 3,” the minister noted.
Regarding the demand to hold a referendum [in Armenia] on membership in the EAEU or the European Union, Papoyan said that Armenia has already expressed its clear position on the matter.
And referring to the matter of building a new nuclear power plant in Armenia, he assured that the Armenian authorities are not pro-American or pro-Russian, but pro-Armenian.
“We [i.e. Armenia] choose the option that is most beneficial for Armenia. We do not have a special attitude towards any country or people,” the economy minister added.
