The Department of Chemical Engineering, National Institute of Technology-Tiruchi (NIT-T), held a conference on “Next Generation Materials, Sustainable Energy and Circular Economy” recently, aimed at fostering inter-disciplinary collaboration among researchers, academicians, students, and industry professionals.
The October 15-17 conference was sponsored by Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration (SPARC) and featured invitees from international institutions such as Lund University, Sweden; Prince of Songkla University, Thailand; University of Calabria, Italy; Universiti Teknologi, Malaysia; and Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang, Indonesia; besides those from domestic educational centres.
In his address, Frank Lipnizki, president, European Membrane Society and Professor, Division of Chemical Engineering, Lund University, stressed on the need to develop recyclable membranes to promote efficient separation processes.
P. Thanikaivelan, director, CSIR–Central Leather Research Institute, Chennai, said that decades of simple and patient scientific observation lead to remarkable, ground-breaking discoveries such as the Nobel Prize 2026 in Physiology or Medicine and the Nature article on DNA-based computing.
The conference covered research on advanced materials and membrane technologies, artificial intelligence-driven process design, sustainable energy, wastewater treatment, resource recovery, and circular economy.
