Sierra Leone’s national broadcaster, the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC), needs about $50 million to transition from analog to digital broadcasting, Information and Civic Education Minister Chernor Bah has disclosed.
Bah said the broadcaster also requires predictable and sustainable financing to strengthen its operations and improve its capacity to deliver public information services.
According to the minister, SLBC’s long-standing financial challenges need urgent attention to ensure the institution can fulfill its role as the country’s national broadcaster.
He also highlighted the prolonged neglect of SLBC’s unfinished building, calling for renewed national attention to ensure the facility is put to productive use.
The minister’s remarks underscore the need for investment in both the broadcaster’s technical modernization and its infrastructure, including efforts to address the unfinished building.
