Police have recovered a MacBook stolen from German tourist Krill Lander at Natore Railway Station four days ago, but his DSLR camera remains missing.
The laptop was recovered from a shop, named Noor Cloth Store, in the Kapuriapatti area of Natore town tonight (11 October), the district's Superintendent of Police (SP) Shariful Haque confirmed at a press briefing at Sadar Police Station.
Efforts to find the camera are continuing.
He said Amal Kumar Saha, a resident of Kapuriapatti, found the bag under a seat on the Titumir Express train on 8 October while travelling to Naogaon via Santahar.
Saha took the bag to Naogaon and, after opening it and finding the laptop, discussed the matter with his son, Antar. After learning through the media that a German tourist had lost his laptop, Saha informed his son, who contacted police tonight.
Police subsequently recovered the laptop from Noor Cloth Store, the SP said, adding that Lander had been informed of the recovery and expressed his gratitude.
Lander had travelled to Bangladesh to visit historical sites. After visiting Bogura, he travelled to Santahar and boarded a train bound for Darshana via Natore.
On Wednesday (7 October), he was waiting in the first-class waiting room at Natore Railway Station when he met a man who introduced himself as a railway official. Lander left his belongings with the man while going to an ATM booth to withdraw money. When he returned, the man and his bag containing the MacBook and camera were gone.
Lander subsequently filed a general diary (GD) at Natore Sadar Police Station.
Police initially tracked the laptop's location to the Rajshahi Railgate area. Later, its location appeared near a women's college in Rajshahi, prompting joint searches by Railway Police, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, Detective Branch, and the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
On Thursday morning (8 October), the laptop's location was detected near Abdulpur Railway Station. Police searched the Titumir and Bonolota Express trains but could not recover the missing items at the time.
Investigators also obtained CCTV camera footage showing the suspected thief and circulated the image through various channels. Police units, including tourist police and railway police, worked together to locate the belongings.
Speaking to journalists during the search in Rajshahi, Lander said the laptop contained important information and data. He said his passport and mobile phone were safe and that this was his first visit to Bangladesh.
Although he described the recovery effort as difficult, he said he believed the search was gradually moving in the right direction and praised the police for their assistance.
