Former Delta governor pays tribute 11 years after his death
By Dapo Akinrefon
Former Delta State Governor, Chief James Ibori, has paid tribute to the late Diepreye Alamieyeseigha on the 11th anniversary of his death, describing his legacy as one that would never be erased.
Popularly known as DSP, Alamieyeseigha governed Bayelsa State from 1999 to 2005. He died on October 10, 2015, and was a close ally of Ibori, who governed Delta State from 1999 to 2007.
In a tribute posted on his official social media platforms, Ibori described the late governor as a man whose courage, conviction and fearless spirit would remain an enduring legacy in the Niger Delta.
He said the region was still in search of fearless leaders with Alamieyeseigha’s character and courage.
Ibori wrote: “Diepreye Solomon Peter Alamieyeseigha — gone, but never forgotten. The Niger Delta is still in search of men with your kind of courage, conviction, and fearless spirit. Your memory lives on, and your legacy will never be erased.”
Describing Alamieyeseigha as a dear brother, the former Delta governor said his memory would remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
“Sleep on, my dear brother. Though you are gone, you will forever remain in our hearts. May your soul continue to rest in perfect peace,” he added.
In April 2017, following his return from the United Kingdom, Ibori visited Alamieyeseigha’s graveside in Amassoma, Bayelsa State.
On that occasion, he described the late governor as a patriotic and courageous leader who was outspoken and “stood on the side of his people at all times”.
