KOTA BARU: A TikToker was fined RM4,500 by the magistrate's court after pleading guilty to insulting a woman's modesty by likening her to a prostitute last November.
Nur Hazwani Mustapha, 39, entered the plea before magistrate Vinoshen Raveentharan after the charge was read to her.
She was charged with insulting the modesty of Nur Faezah Sohaimi, 33, via WhatsApp on Nov 1, 2025.
The charge was framed under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which provides for up to five years' jail, a fine, or both upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Baihaqi Mohd Saidi prosecuted, while lawyer Muhammad Husni Mubarak Ghazali represented Nur Hazwani.
In mitigation, Husni sought a minimum fine, saying Nur Hazwani was a single mother supporting four children aged 6 to 17 on her income as a laksa seller.
"This is also the accused's first offence," he said.
The court fined her RM4,500, which she paid.
