We’re almost there, almost back to the grind of another Notre Dame basketball season. Before you know it, there will be a foot of snow on the ground, temperatures will be below zero and another Atlantic Coast Conference game will be going up and down the court inside Purcell Pavilion.
To get you ready for those nights and get you ready for a Notre Dame season that starts in Rome on November 1 against Villanova in the Eternal City Tip-off, we’ll take an alphabetical player-by-player look - from 0 to 51 with several stops in between - at the 2026-27 Notre Dame basketball team over the next 16 days (Monday, October 12 thru Friday, October 30).
Who are these guys? What did they do last year? Where do they fit in this one? And what does fourth-year head coach Micah Shrewsberry think of them? Your snapshot of the 2026-27 Irish starts here.
∎ (6) Brady Koehler
Hometown (High School/previous school): Fishers, Indiana (Cathedral)
Dimensions: 6-foot-10, 205 pounds
Projected position: Starting small forward
Class: Sophomore
Notable number: Koehler scored double figures in three of the last four games and six of the last 11 after hitting for at least 10 points only three times in his first 19 games of 2025-26.
25-26 stats: Averaged 5.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 0.3 assists in 16.0 minutes over 30 games with 13 starts. Shot .452 percent from the field, .382 from 3 and .739 from the foul line.
26-27 outlook: Take a serious jump as a main guy and make a push for possible all-league honors. No Irish has more upside/NBA potential than the lanky left-hander who decided not to jump into the transfer portal when so many Irish were doing so in the spring.
Shrews on Koehler: "He can be on the (ACC) all-defensive team. He could average 10 points and six rebounds and get drafted in the (NBA's) first round next year. That's his potential and how good he is. He's got a lot of tools. I remind him about that and talk to him every day about that. Here's the standard for our team and here's the standard for you."
