A WOMAN has been arrested in Gibraltar as part of an investigation in to a sprawling international drug trafficking organisation.
Royal Gibraltar Police carried out a raid on a residential property and cuffed the 30-year-old on suspicion of money laundering and using criminal property.
Detectives from the Economic Crime Unit also seized cash and ‘other items of property’ in the home.
The RGP said the arrest followed intelligence from international partners about a drug trafficking investigation involving several jurisdictions.
After the search she was further arrested on suspicion of possessing criminal property, which also classed as money laundering, and taken to New Mole House police station for interview.
Under Gibraltar law it is an offence to use, or to have possession of, property that represents the proceeds of crime.
Both are classed as money laundering, and carry up to 14 years in prison on conviction.

Police did not name her, say how much cash was taken, or name the partners or countries involved.
Gibraltar has featured in Spanish laundering cases before.
Five people from Gibraltar were among 71 arrested in July 2020 in a Guardia Civil operation called Domus, in which Spanish authorities alleged up to €35 million was laundered.

On August 10 Spain’s Interior Ministry said the Guardia Civil and Europol, the EU police agency, had arrested 44 people in Operation Omnis over more than €8.6 million allegedly laundered for a drug trafficking organisation, in a case led from Algeciras, across the bay from Gibraltar.
The UK-EU agreement on Gibraltar, in provisional use since July 15, lets police in Gibraltar and EU states exchange information to counter money laundering.
The RGP said the investigation remains ongoing.
