Probashi Card holders will receive a 3% incentive on remittances once the card is finalised and distributed, State Minister for Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Nurul Haque Nur has said.
"When the Probashi Card is finalised and delivered, workers will be eligible for a 3% incentive," he told reporters.
He was speaking as a special guest at an event marking the 30th anniversary of the Refugee and Migratory Movements Research Unit (RMMRU) at a city hotel today.
Currently, migrant workers sending money home through formal channels receive a 2.5% cash incentive from the government.
Regarding the benefits under the Probashi Card, Nur said the government had identified 11 sectors to ensure dignity for migrant workers.
Pilot programmes for the card are currently underway in four countries, he added.
The state minister also expressed concern over allegations that migrant workers pay recruiting agencies but are subsequently abandoned by them.
He said some workers return home without jobs and struggle to make ends meet, leaving their families to send them money for their livelihoods.
"We are trying to introduce a grading system for recruiting agencies," he said, adding that no more than 500 agencies might survive if the system were implemented.
"If we cannot bring recruiting agencies under discipline, it will be difficult to ensure a smooth migration process," he said.
Nur also said the government was working to revise the curricula of Technical Training Centres (TTCs) to align them with the demands of overseas labour markets.
