The Nigerian Air Force has assured Igbokoda residents in Ondo that it will engage relevant environmental and public health authorities to address the foul odour at the crash scene.
Efforts to recover the bodies of the 25 victims are ongoing.
In a statement on Thursday, the force spokesman, Ehimen Ejodame, acknowledged the residents’ concern over offensive odour in the environment.
“The NAF recognises the discomfort, anxiety and uncertainty such circumstances may cause and assures the affected community that their concerns are being taken seriously,” he said.
He said search and recovery operations remained ongoing, adding that the force continued to work with relevant partner agencies to ensure the safe and orderly recovery of the wreckage.
“Upon completion of the recovery operation, the NAF will engage with the appropriate environmental and public health authorities and other relevant agencies to assess the situation and coordinate appropriate action to address any identified environmental concerns,” Mr Ejodame said.
