Social media users have expressed mixed reactions after United States President Donald Trump shared a video on X showing a prison in El Salvador, where his administration sends convicted criminals and other deportees.
Trump accompanied the video with a message defending the policy, linking it to a decline in crime across the United States.
“THIS IS WHERE WE SEND OUR KILLERS, DRUG DEALERS & THUGS.
THIS IS WHY MURDER AND OTHER CRIMES IN AMERICA ARE AT RECORD LOWS.
El Salvador,” he wrote.
The post attracted reactions from supporters who praised Trump’s approach to crime and public safety, while others questioned whether deporting criminals to another country would provide a lasting solution.
A user, Jan Okaley, expressed support for the president, writing: “This is what I voted for! 💯
Thank you, Mister President, Sir! 🇺🇲”
Similarly, Brij Srivastav Janseva described the policy as necessary for public safety, saying: “This is exactly the kind of action that keeps American communities safe. Deporting convicted killers, drug dealers, and thugs should be standard practice — not controversial. When you remove dangerous criminals, crime rates drop. Common sense.”

Henry Brausen also defended the policy, arguing that the United States had the right to determine how it addressed criminality.
“America has every right to use their democratically elected power to manage criminality in a way they see fit,” he wrote.
Another commenter, Banz Karoo, questioned the decisions of people who engage in criminal activities despite the consequences, writing: “What the hell kind of mind chooses that “prison life” as an acceptable risk in your business plan?
Thank goodness was born to parents in the USA who raised me and brothers smarter.”
Ashwani Gupta also backed a tough approach to dealing with criminals, questioning whether governments should continue to provide for and protect people convicted of serious crimes.
“Hello Mr President, I always think of they are murderer/criminal even serious charged against humanity and proven that they are dangerous for the society.

Kelley Buck praised Trump and El Salvador President Nayib Bukele, crediting their leadership with efforts to improve security in both countries.
“Thank you @nayibbukele and @realDonaldTrump for making the world a safer place. My adult children’s father is from El Salvador. Hard working God loving people. So glad you are cleaning up both countries. 🇺🇸🇸🇻,” she wrote.
Ivan Avina also supported the policy but stressed the importance of evidence and due process in dealing with offenders.
“Consequences work. El Salvador went from one of the most violent countries on earth to one of the safest in its region once gang leaders stopped running the streets. Killers and cartel thugs should fear the punishment more than they fear the gang. Do it with solid evidence and due process, so every person sent there has earned it, and nobody can call it anything but justice. Should the US build more maximum security capacity of its own for the worst offenders?” Avina wrote.
In South Africa, Themba Ngobeni said he wished his country had a leader who prioritised citizens’ safety, using Trump’s approach as an example.
“I wish we had a president who puts his people first. We need someone like him in South Africa. We are now being invaded, and no politician is saying a damn thing about it. The US president is doing what his people voted him for 🙌🏿,” he wrote.
Another user, Sparrow Petal, expressed gratitude to the president and security personnel, writing: “Thank you! God bless you and all who protect us.”
Black Madonna also praised Trump’s efforts, saying: “Thank 🇺🇸 you for your hard work. Thank you for saving lives of our children. Thank 🇺🇸 you for SAVING 🇺🇸 AMERICA.”
However, Fred Francis questioned the effectiveness of sending criminals abroad, arguing that deportation would not necessarily prevent them from committing further offences.
“Sending them to other countries doesn’t stop them from returning.
You remember that one deportee that was returned and murdered someone in the train station?
It won’t help. Just makes things worse,” he wrote.
The reactions reflect differing views on Trump’s approach to crime and deportation, with supporters praising the policy as a means of improving public safety and critics questioning its long-term effectiveness.
