Sonesta began laying off employees last Friday, according to an employee who spoke anonymously to Skift and at least nine LinkedIn posts. The departures span communications, marketing, loyalty, quality assurance, training, food and beverage, and accounting.
Sonesta's chief brand officer left in recent weeks, and marketing and creative staff have exited since Friday, according to their LinkedIn posts.
The cuts come less than two weeks after TKO, a South Dakota hotel investor, said it had offered $2 billion in cash for the entire hotel portfolio of Service Properties Trust, the real estate investment trust that owns a third of Sonesta.
The trust's 68 Sonesta-run hotels have 17,013 rooms, roughly 17% of Sonesta's approximately 100,000-room system. The trust carried the Sonesta hotels at a book value of $3.98 billion in its second-quarter filings.
Sonesta didn't respond to requests for comment on how many employees were affected, and
