Colombia’s President Abelardo de la Espriella announced an “open, resolute, and patriotic struggle against wokeism” as part of his “cultural counterrevolution.”
During a visit to the Culture Ministry, De la Espriella described wokeism as “an ideological paradigm that aims to transform moral, cultural, and social foundations in the West, perverting values, family tradition, and national identity.”
According to the president, Culture Minister Paola Holguin was a general in the “cultural counterrevolution.”
Culture has an enormous capacity to shape society, and that is why the State has a moral, inescapable, and political duty to prevent cultural spaces from being taken over by social communism, which is atheist and an enemy to the fundamental values upon which the nation of Colombia is built. This is where that cultural counterrevolution will begin.

De la Espriella said that Holguin, the daughter of a reported money launderer, would lead the “Culture War” against the “extreme left,” which has “permeated all parts of society, particularly the cultural and academic spheres.”
I want to be clear about this: we are going to wage an open, resolute, and patriotic struggle against wokeism, which is nothing more than an ideological movement that aims to transform the moral, cultural, and social foundations of the West, corrupting values, family tradition, and national identity.

Earlier in the day, the National Museum removed all references to members of the exterminated Patriotic Union party, slain guerrilla leader and presidential candidate Carlos Pizarro, and the struggle for the rights of Colombia’s LGBT+ community.
References to Colombia’s former guerrilla movements was “terrorism apology, which is “exactly what we have come to confront” in an attempt to “recover pride for Colombian culture.”
Atheists, the Pizarro family and gay rights activists rejected the president’s attempts to remove them from mainstream culture.
