UN Secretary-General António Guterres released his official message for United Nations Day 2026 (observed today, 24 October 2026), marking the 81st anniversary of the UN Charter entering into force.
Key Themes of the 2026 Message
- Reaffirm "Dialogue over Division": Guterres urged the global community to choose dialogue over division, cooperation over confrontation, and solidarity over fear.
- Core Missions: He highlighted 81 years of UN work in settling disputes through diplomacy and international law rather than weapons, eradicating poverty and hunger, promoting human rights, and delivering life-saving aid.
- Current Global Crises: The Secretary-General noted that the world is shaken by conflict, battered by the climate crisis, scarred by rising inequalities, and reshaped by rapidly accelerating technologies.
- Call to Action: He asked all countries to renew their commitment to the UN Charter and international law, and to work together to strengthen the organization to better serve people.
We, members of AFICS-M, HEAR WELL THE CALL FOR ACTION FROM THE UN S-G for all countries to renew their commitment to the UN Charter and international law, and to work together to strengthen the organization to better serve people.
And we will do what we can to support this call.
