THE Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) has seized 5,801 soft foam “squishy” toys worth RM70,428 nationwide for failing to display the required Malaysian Conformity (MC) safety mark.
KPDN Enforcement director-general Datuk Azman Adam said the seizures resulted from 15 enforcement cases recorded during special inspections conducted from Oct 1 to 14 to ensure compliance with child toy safety standards.
A total of 1,845 premises were inspected during the operation, covering manufacturers, importers, wholesalers and retailers, he said in a statement today.
“KPDN takes child toy safety seriously and will not compromise with parties that fail to comply with regulations under the Consumer Protection Act 1999 (Act 599),” he said.
Azman said the ministry would intensify inspections and enforcement to ensure that only products meeting safety standards were sold in the market.
He also advised consumers, particularly parents, to check product labels and safety compliance markings before buying toys for children.
Members of the public with information about the sale of suspicious toys can lodge complaints via WhatsApp at 019-848 8000 or 019-279 4317, through the KPDN e-Aduan portal at e-aduan.kpdn.gov.my, the ministry’s call centre at 1-800-886-800, or the Ez ADU KPDN smartphone application. - October 25, 2026
