Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested three suspects over the alleged defilement of minors in the state.
The state’s Commissioner of Police, Patrick Daaor, said the suspects were arrested in connection with the alleged sexual assault and defilement of two minors, aged two years and nine months, and four years, respectively.
He said the cases were being handled by the command’s Gender and Family Unit, adding that the suspects would soon be charged to court.
One of the suspects, identified as Destiny Samson, who was accused of defiling a four-year-old girl, said in an interview that he did not have sexual intercourse with the minor but admitted to digitally penetrating her.

The suspect, a bricklayer, said, “I didn’t know what came over me. I didn’t sleep with her; I only fingered her.”
He said the incident came to light when the girl’s mother returned home and raised an alarm, attracting the attention of people around.
“I begged her mother to forgive me, but she refused, and I was arrested by the police,” he said.
He pleaded for forgiveness, saying he had learnt his lesson.
