A new speed record has been set on Lisbon’s Vasco da Gama Bridge: 292 km/ hour – and now the driver is facing a stiff fine (at least €500) and a possible ban of up to two years before he gets back behind the wheel.
It wasn’t that long ago that a car was clocked travelling at 277 km/ hour, recall reports.
This latest infraction was detected on Monday during a GNR road enforcement operation, using a fixed video speed camera on the bridge.
The Mercedes passed through two checkpoints shortly before 9pm, which were able to give his ‘average speed’. The checkpoints were separated by around 8.4 kms, which he covered in just 103 seconds…
The maximum speed limit on the bridge is 120 km/h.
