The Achanpudur police have seized banned tobacco products weighing 133 kg and arrested two persons for smuggling the prohibited substance.
Police said the Achanpudur police during a routine vehicle check-up on Achanpudur – Kasidharmam main road recently intercepted a car. When the police checked the vehicle, they found 133 kg of banned tobacco products, worth about ₹94,400, in the vehicle.
Besides seizing the vehicle with the tobacco products, the police also arrested the occupants of the car, who were identified as G. Shahul Hameed, 44, and S. Tajudeen, 47, both hailing from Achanpudur.
During inquiry, the duo told the police that they were taking the banned tobacco products to be sold to their customers in Tenkasi district.
Further investigations are on.
