Following the success of video game adaptations such as “A Minecraft Movie”, “The Super Mario Bros”, “Resident Evil”, and Five Nights at Freddy’s”, films based on popular video games have gained significant momentum in the 2020s. Now, Capcom’s iconic fighting game franchise “Street Fighter” is making its way to the big screen.
The action-packed martial arts film is scheduled for international release on Friday and is also expected to hit Bangladesh’s Star Cineplex on the same day.
Following the 1994 adaptation starring Kylie Minogue and Jean-Claude Van Damme, the latest film promises to introduce the beloved franchise to the audience in a fresh and exciting way.
The film features Noah Centineo and Andrew Koji in prominent roles, while Jason Momoa portrays Blanka, the iconic green-skinned character. Directed by Kitao Sakurai, known for Bad Trip and The Eric Andre Show, the film is expected to blend high-octane action with surreal humour.
Sakurai has said that he was given the creative freedom to bring his own distinctive vision to the project rather than follow the conventional formula of video game adaptations.
Based on Capcom’s globally popular video game series, “Street Fighter” combines action, martial arts and adventure. The story brings together karate, kung fu and various other fighting styles, featuring powerful warriors, intense rivalries and conspiracies with global implications.
One of the franchise’s biggest attractions is the opportunity to see its legendary video game characters brought to life on the silver screen.
Even before its release, the film has generated considerable excitement among fans. Longtime followers of the game are particularly eager to see their favourite characters and signature fighting moves recreated in live action.
The star-studded cast is another major attraction, featuring familiar names such as Jason Momoa, Noah Centineo and Roman Reigns.
Adding to the excitement is the presence of popular Indian action star Vidyut Jammwal, who plays Dhalsim, one of the most recognisable characters from Capcom’s “Street Fighter” series.
Known as the “Indian Yogi”, Dhalsim is celebrated for his distinctive fighting techniques and extraordinary abilities. Fans familiar with the character are eagerly anticipating Jammwal’s portrayal and martial arts performances in the Hollywood production. For the audience unfamiliar with Dhalsim and his remarkable abilities, the film promises an exciting surprise.
