Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management K.A. Sengottaiyan on Thursday (October 15, 2026) said the Tamil Nadu government has taken all precautionary and preparedness measures to face the Northeast monsoon.
Speaking to reporters at Ezhilagam in Chennai, Mr. Sengottaiyan said the department had conducted a series of review meetings on monsoon preparedness, and nearly 98% of the preparedness works had been completed.
Hospitals and medical facilities had been asked to remain ready. The preparedness of Amma Unavagams to provide food and educational institutions designated as rehabilitation centres had also been reviewed.
According to him, the Northeast monsoon was likely to be moderate in October and was expected to intensify in November. The State government was taking measures, keeping in mind the potential impact of a Super El Niño.
In Chennai, a team of Ministers headed by Minister for Public Works Aadhav Arjuna had been appointed to oversee monsoon preparedness and rescue efforts in various zones. Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers had also been appointed for all 15 zones to coordinate the efforts.
The Revenue and Agriculture Departments would jointly assess crop damage caused by drought, compile the data, and prepare estimates by December.
