Colombo, Oct 17 (Daily Mirror) - Power interruptions have occurred across Sri Lanka following a sudden instability in the national electricity grid, with authorities working to restore supplies as quickly as possible, Energy Minister Anura Karunathilaka said.
The Minister said the disruption had resulted in an emergency shutdown of electricity supplies as authorities moved to stabilise the system. Power supplies to several areas have already been restored, and efforts are underway to restore electricity islandwide.
He appealed to consumers using rooftop solar panels to temporarily switch off their systems to help stabilise the national grid and speed up the restoration process.
The cause of the disruption is still under investigation, with authorities examining whether it was linked to a technical glitch reported yesterday at one of the units at the Upper Kotmale Power Station.
The Minister said officials were checking whether the incident had directly triggered the grid disruption or whether other operational factors had contributed to the imbalance.
He expressed confidence that normal electricity supplies would be restored across the country as soon as possible.
