The Ministry of Housing and Reconstruction announced yesterday that, in cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), and under the supervision of the Ministry of Planning, a preparatory workshop on the building code has commenced.
AIt said this comes as part of efforts to develop Libya’s construction sector and enhance quality and safety standards in project execution.
This workshop is part of the preliminary steps aimed at establishing the necessary institutional and technical framework for developing a national Libyan building code.
Such a code, it added, will help regulate construction activities, define technical requirements and standards, and ensure the safety of structures and the quality of project implementation.
The workshop will run for five days with the participation of engineers from various departments and offices within the Ministry of Housing and Reconstruction.
Discussions will cover the importance of the building code and its core components, as well as the institutional requirements for its development, adoption, and implementation.
Participants will also address existing needs and gaps and identify priorities to be considered during the drafting stages.
