DMK deputy general secretary and Thoothukudi MP Kanimozhi on Monday said the extensive campaign by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay for the byelection clearly showed that he was apprehensive about the outcome.
Addressing media persons here, she said she believed that people would vote to teach the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), a lesson for allegedly engaging in activities that could deceive people and push democracy into crisis.
Responding to a query on a Communist leader’s allegation that TVK was distributing money, Ms. Kanimozhi said they (TVK) were running the government as an ‘honest and clean force’ to such an extent that even those who supported them had now started criticising them and people should understand this.
“It is not enough to repeatedly say on every stage that ‘we will not make any mistakes,’ they must actually conduct themselves that way. There is no benefit to the people and there is no security. Crimes are increasing every day and people are living in fear. There are no development projects and no industrial developments” she added.
She further alleged that the TVK was misleading people by projecting itself as a ‘clean force,’ while distributing money to voters. “People should understand where the money comes from and realise the true face of such people,” she said.
Responding to the Chief Ministery’s extensive campaign for the bypoll, Ms. Kanimozhi said, “If a Chief Minister who has not campaigned extensively even during elections is now campaigning street by street, it is clear that brother Vijay is apprehensive about the byelection.”
