MOSCOW, October 20. /TASS/. Russia and the US have been and will remain systemic adversaries; relations between Moscow and Washington have once again been set back by decades, Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev stated.
"We must acknowledge that relations between Russia and the US have once again been damaged for decades to come. We have been, are, and will remain systemic adversaries," the politician wrote in a post on his Max channel.
He cited US President Donald Trump’s statement that the White House does not intend to introduce sanctions against Russia at this time so as not to undermine the chances of success in the Ukrainian settlement as an example of such a policy. According to Medvedev, the key phrase is "at this time." Trump is facing intense criticism in Congress over this document, while others commend his decision to postpone implementing the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026, also known as the Graham Act (Lindsey Graham was designated a terrorist and extremist in Russia - TASS).
"Of course, there is a certain amount of courage in this, especially in the run-up to the congressional elections, which are extremely difficult for Republicans, given the Russophobic, pro-Bandera lobby in the US Congress and pressure from European degenerates," Medvedev noted, adding that Trump is a pragmatic man. "Both the diesel deal with Russia and a number of other steps could bring him quite tangible dividends," he explained.
However, Medvedev argued that this does not change the most important point. The Graham Act is a systemic act of Russophobia designed to last for decades. Decisions to suspend the application of its individual provisions "will turn into a series of attempts - spanning decades - to blackmail and sever ties with Russia on various issues."
"I remember how Trump’s ‘best friend,’ Obama, took credit in conversations with me for using a waiver under the long-obsolete Jackson-Vanik Amendment and for repealing the amendment itself. This happened 35 years after its adoption. This story will outlast more than one generation of politicians," the security official concluded.
