The meeting was held at the Special Forces Command headquarters in Entebbe, Wakiso District.
Ibrahim thanked the Uganda People’s Defence Forces for its support to the Somali National Army, particularly in troop training and mentorship. He said the assistance has contributed significantly to strengthening the capacity of Somali forces.
Kainerugaba thanked the Somali commander for accepting the invitation and said relations between the two countries grow stronger through continued meetings and exchanges of ideas.
The two commanders also discussed Somalia’s security situation, with Ibrahim briefing his Ugandan counterpart on developments in the country.
They agreed that cooperation between Somalia and Uganda should not be limited to security but should also expand into economic and social sectors.
The commanders also encouraged Ugandan businesspeople and investors to explore opportunities in Somalia, citing security gains supported by Ugandan troops.
Senior Ugandan military officials attended the meeting, including Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Jack Bakasumba and officers responsible for training, strategy and international defense relations.
Uganda has long been a key contributor to African Union security efforts in Somalia, with its troops supporting the Somali government in operations against al-Shabab.
