Members of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) staged a demonstration in front of the BSNL office near Coimbatore Collectorate on Sunday (October 11, 2026), demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India Gyanesh Kumar and condemning the police excess on the protesters in Delhi.
Holding black flags, they raised ‘Modi go back’ slogans in protest against the Prime Minister’s visit to Chennai on Sunday. They condemned the BJP-led Union government, accusing it of committing vote theft through Mr. Kumar.
SFI’s district president K. Pavel, secretary Ahmed Zulfikar, DYFI district president Raja, secretary Dinesh Raja led the demonstration.
Meanwhile, the Kattoor police registered case against 103 persons, including 17 women, who took part in a protest organised by the Communist Party of India (Marxist), demanding resignation of Mr. Kumar, at Gandhipuram in the city on Saturday evening (October 10, 2026). The police arrested the protesters after they staged a road blockade. They were later released.
Similarly, the Race Course police registered a case against 27 members of the All India Youth Federation, who attempted to enter Coimbatore Railway Station to stage a rail blockade seeking Mr. Kumar’s resignation on Saturday afternoon. They were arrested and released later in the day.
