Botswana ranks third in Africa on global capitalism index
Botswana ranks as Africa’s third-highest-performing capitalist economy, scoring 72.7 out of 100 in the Global Capitalism Index, although weaknesses in business formation and capital markets point to persistent barriers to private-sector growth.
The index, released by the University of Virginia’s Democracy and Capitalism Lab, places Botswana 52nd globally, behind Mauritius at 73.9 and Seychelles at 73.4. Namibia ranks fourth in Africa with 69.7.
