India’s largest steelmaker JSW Steel posted a 225.5 per cent jump in net profit in the second quarter at ₹5,359 crore compared with ₹1,646 crore in the same period of last year, on the back of higher sales and stronger realisation.
The company recorded a 20.6 per cent rise in revenue from operations at ₹54,486 crore in Q2 compared with ₹45,152 crore in the same period of FY26.
On a consolidated basis, JSW Steel’s sales volume reached 7.46 million tonnes (mt), up 13 per cent a year-on-year basis, as a new 5 mt per annum capacity at Karnataka’s Vijaynagar was ramped up to 90 per utilisation.
Consolidated production for the quarter was also the highest ever at 7.27 mt, higher by 5 per cent YoY basis.
While domestic sale stood at a record 6.29 mt, up 12 per cent YoY, exports from India were at 0.98 mt, contributing 13 per cent of sales.
Adjusted EBITDA stood at ₹9,941 crore, with an EBITDA margin of 18.3 per cent during the quarter. Adjusted EBIDTA stood at ₹7,849 crore in Q2FY26.
JSW said India’s overall steel consumption remained strong, growing 7 per cent YoY to 43.4 mt in Q2FY27 and by 7.5 per cent in H1FY27, supported by steady domestic demand as well as healthy exports of engineering goods. During H1, exports and imports of total steel (including semi-finished steel) were broadly balanced. However, India remained a net importer of finished steel.
Capex plan
JSW Steel said the company’s board and its joint venture partner, JFE Steel of Japan, approved a 5 mt expansion of JSW JFE Ltd (formerly BSPL). This will take the total capacity of the plant to 9.5 mt and is planned to be commissioned by FY31. The partners have committed a combined equity ₹7,500 crore.
JSW’s consolidated capex at the end of September 30 stood at ₹148,402 crore, which is expected to be spent in another 5-6 years.
