INCHEON — Five wood processing companies in Incheon have been caught illegally discharging pollutants.
The Incheon Metropolitan Government's special judicial police said on the 15th that it inspected 42 business sites with emission control facilities, together with the city's air conservation division and district offices, and found five companies in violation of the Clean Air Conservation Act.
By type of violation, one site operated its emission facilities without notifying the district office that it had begun operations, and another failed to carry out required self-monitoring of discharge concentrations. Two companies were operating with broken pollution control equipment, and one had not completed mandatory training for its environmental technician.
Under the Clean Air Conservation Act, operating emission facilities without filing a start-of-operation notice carries up to one year in prison or a fine of up to 10 million won. Sites that fail to conduct self-monitoring face up to five years in prison or a fine of up to 50 million won.
The city's special judicial police said they would refer the violators to prosecutors and, through the relevant administrative agencies, also impose administrative measures such as warnings and fines.
