Three people were injured after a truck allegedly rolled down Prince Mcwayizeni Road in Umlazi and damaged seven houses and a shack.
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport and Human Settlements Siboniso Duma said the truck rolled down the road without a driver behind the steering wheel before crashing into the properties.
“We have mandated the Road Traffic Inspectorate to work with the Durban Metro Police and South African Police Service to locate the truck driver and the owner of the truck,” Duma said.
He said the driver and the truck owner must be held accountable for the incident.
Duma also praised bystanders who helped rescue injured residents.
“We salute the quick-thinking and brave bystanders who saved the injured residents,” he said.
According to Duma, three people who were run over by the truck were taken to Prince Mshiyeni Hospital for medical treatment.
